Members of the International Oilseeds Producers' Dialogue (IOPD) convened their XXVI meeting on June 18-19, 2024 in Wismar, Germany, where topics of common interest affecting global oilseed producers were discussed. Based on the discussions within the conference, IOPD members adopted the following declaration:
Oilseed producers around the world are committed to growing sustainable crops in harmony with the environment and our communities. We are providing solutions to global food and energy insecurities, all while ensuring that family farms remain economically viable for current and future generations. Farmers and their communities are on the front lines of climate change and are committed to managing resources and delivering economic, social and environmental sustainability.
We call on decision-makers to promote greater dialogue and more unity when considering solutions to the world’s challenges. The world’s oilseed producers are ready to step up and co-create a more healthy, sustainable and economically prosperous world. In order to achieve these shared goals, we need practical solutions that acknowledge our shared priorities:
- That realistic regulations, which are based on science, recognize local conditions and acknowledge trade-offs, are vital to efficient and sustainable food production.
- That predictable market access and clear rules are essential to achieving food security and sustainable production and that there is no one-size-fits-all solution for sustainable agriculture.
- And that farmers' voices and solutions to new challenges must be heard.
- We are, and seek to be, reliable partners in addressing these crises.
Only under these conditions will it be possible to meet the challenges of supplying a growing world population with food and energy. Through policies that welcome innovation and productivity, we can meet the world’s food needs while contributing to the decarbonization of the transport and energy sector.
